My senior collection at Appalachian State University, “Modern Renaissance” studies the restrictive undergarments designed for women during the Renaissance era. This period marked a significant shift in women’s fashion as dress became increasingly structured, with exaggerated silhouettes that required corsets, panniers, and crinolines to shape and control the female body. Through this collection, I reconstructed these historical garments into provocative contemporary pieces that challenge the traditional role of the undergarment and transform rigid structures into subversive fashion that serves as an expression of agency and self-possession.
